Keeping the Banded Wrasse (Halichoeres notospilus) in an Aquarium

The Banded Wrasse, also known as the Threadfin Wrasse, is a beautiful and active fish that can make a great addition to a saltwater aquarium. Here are some things to consider when keeping this species:

Tank Size and Setup

The Banded Wrasse can grow up to 6 inches in length, so it's important to provide them with a tank that's at least 75 gallons in size. They prefer a rocky reef environment with plenty of hiding places and open swimming areas. Live rock is important for these fish as they like to graze on the tiny organisms that grow on it.

Water Conditions

The Banded Wrasse is a hardy fish that can tolerate a wide range of water conditions. However, it's important to keep the water clean and well-maintained. They prefer a pH between 8.1 and 8.4, and a temperature between 72 and 78 degrees Fahrenheit. They also require a salinity level of 1.020 to 1.025.

Diet

The Banded Wrasse is primarily a carnivore and should be fed a varied diet of meaty foods such as shrimp, squid, and krill. They also enjoy live or frozen brine shrimp and small feeder fish. It's important to feed them multiple times a day to keep them healthy and happy.

Behavior

The Banded Wrasse is an active and social fish that can be kept with other peaceful species. However, they should not be kept with other wrasse species as they can become aggressive towards each other. They are also known to jump, so a tight-fitting lid is necessary to prevent them from escaping the tank.
