Keeping Cooper's Fairy Anthias in an Aquarium

Cooper's Fairy Anthias, also known as Pseudanthias cooperi, is a beautiful and colorful fish that can be a great addition to a home aquarium. Here are some important things to know about keeping this fish:

Appearance

Cooper's Fairy Anthias has a pinkish-orange body with bright yellow fins. The males have a more intense coloration and longer fins than females. This fish can grow up to 4 inches in length.

Aquarium Requirements

Cooper's Fairy Anthias should be kept in a well-established aquarium with plenty of hiding places and open swimming space. A minimum tank size of 50 gallons is recommended. The water temperature should be between 72-78°F and the pH should be between 8.1-8.4. It is important to maintain good water quality and proper filtration to keep this fish healthy.

Diet

Cooper's Fairy Anthias is a carnivore and should be fed a varied diet of small meaty foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and krill. It is recommended to feed this fish small amounts multiple times a day.

Behavior

Cooper's Fairy Anthias is a peaceful fish that can be kept in groups of one male and multiple females. Males can be aggressive towards each other, so it is important to provide enough hiding places and open swimming space. This fish is active and loves to swim, so a larger aquarium is recommended.

Coolest Stuff

  • Cooper's Fairy Anthias is a hermaphrodite, meaning it has both male and female reproductive organs. However, it is not able to self-fertilize.
  • This fish is found in the Indo-Pacific region, from the Andaman Sea to the Great Barrier Reef.
  • Cooper's Fairy Anthias is named after the American ichthyologist James Graham Cooper.
