Keeping Mandarin Green Dragonet (Synchiropus splendidus) in an Aquarium
The Mandarin Green Dragonet, also known as the Mandarin Goby, is a popular and colorful fish that can be kept in a home aquarium. Here are some things to keep in mind when caring for this fish:
Tank Requirements
The Mandarin Green Dragonet is a small fish, growing up to 3 inches in length. They are peaceful and can be kept in a community tank with other non-aggressive fish. However, they are not recommended for a beginner aquarist as they require a specific diet and environment.
The tank should be at least 30 gallons, with plenty of live rock and hiding places. The water should be kept at a temperature between 72-78°F, with a pH of 8.1-8.4 and a salinity of 1.023-1.025.
Diet
The Mandarin Green Dragonet is a carnivore and requires a diet of live or frozen foods, such as brine shrimp, copepods, and mysis shrimp. They will not eat flake or pellet foods, so it is important to have a steady supply of live food available for them.
Coolest Stuff About the Mandarin Green Dragonet
- The Mandarin Green Dragonet is one of the most colorful fish in the aquarium hobby, with bright greens, blues, oranges, and purples.
- They have a unique swimming style, using their pectoral fins to "walk" along the bottom of the tank.
- The Mandarin Green Dragonet is MAC Certified, meaning they are sustainably and responsibly harvested from the wild.
- They have a symbiotic relationship with copepods, which they eat as their primary food source. This helps to control the population of copepods in the tank.
- They are also known as the Psychedelic Fish or the Mandarin Dragonet.
