Keeping Painted Reef Butterfly (Chaetodon sedentarius) in an Aquarium
The Painted Reef Butterfly, also known as the Blue-cheeked Butterflyfish, is a colorful and popular fish species among aquarium enthusiasts. Here are some important things to know about keeping this fish in an aquarium:
Aquarium Size
A minimum of 75 gallons is recommended for a single Painted Reef Butterfly. If you plan to keep multiple individuals, a larger tank is necessary to ensure enough swimming space and territory for each fish.
Water Conditions
The ideal water temperature for Painted Reef Butterfly is between 72-78°F, with a pH range of 8.1-8.4. They also require a high level of water quality, so regular water changes and a good filtration system are essential.
Diet
In the wild, Painted Reef Butterfly feeds on small invertebrates and algae. In captivity, they can be fed a varied diet consisting of frozen or live brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and other small meaty foods. They may also graze on algae in the aquarium.
Behavior
Painted Reef Butterfly is generally peaceful and can be kept with other non-aggressive fish species. However, they may become territorial towards other butterflyfish or fish with a similar body shape.
