There once was a Blue Ribbon Eel,
Whose appearance had quite the appeal,
With a long, slender frame,
And a stunning bright blue mane,
This sea creature was quite a big deal!

It's shape is unique, quite extraordinary,
And its blue hue is so bright and merry,
With a ribbon-like form,
It can hide from a storm,
In crevices that are narrow and scary!

Their home is in the coral reefs,
Where they swim with graceful ease,
With a fearsome sharp teeth,
It's predator and prey beneath,
The Blue Ribbon Eel is just a tease!

Keeping Blue Ribbon Eels in an Aquarium

The Blue Ribbon Eel, also known as Rhinomuraena quaesita, is a popular species of eel kept in aquariums. Here are some tips for keeping them happy and healthy:

  • They need a large tank (at least 100 gallons) with plenty of hiding spots and caves to explore.
  • The water should be warm and pristine, with a pH of 8.0-8.4 and a salinity around 1.020-1.025.
  • Feed them a varied diet of live or frozen foods, such as shrimp, krill, and squid.
  • It's important to note that Blue Ribbon Eels are known for their ability to escape from tanks, so make sure the tank is securely covered.

Coolest Stuff About Blue Ribbon Eels

Here are some interesting facts about Blue Ribbon Eels:

  • Their vibrant blue color is only present in the adult males. Juveniles and females are yellow and black-striped.
  • They have a unique hunting strategy where they open their mouths wide and ambush prey by creating a vacuum that sucks the prey into their mouths.
  • Blue Ribbon Eels are often referred to as "ribbon" eels because of their long, thin, and ribbon-like bodies.
  • They can grow up to 3 feet long, but typically only reach around 2 feet in captivity.
  • Blue Ribbon Eels are not aggressive towards other fish, but they may eat smaller tankmates that can fit in their mouths.
