Keeping Mandarin Green Dragonet in an Aquarium

The Mandarin Green Dragonet, also known as Synchiropus splendidus, is a popular and colorful fish in the aquarium hobby. It is native to the Pacific Ocean and can be found in shallow coral reefs.

Tank Requirements

Mandarin Green Dragonets are small fish, growing up to 3 inches in length. They require a minimum tank size of 30 gallons with plenty of live rock and sand for them to hide and forage in. A well-established tank with stable water parameters is important for their health and well-being.

Diet

Mandarin Green Dragonets are carnivores and require a varied diet that includes live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, copepods, and amphipods. It is important to ensure they are getting enough food as they have a small mouth and can be outcompeted for food by other fish in the tank.

Coolest Stuff

  • Mandarin Green Dragonets have a unique way of swimming, often hovering and darting around the tank.
  • They have a bright and colorful appearance, making them a sought-after fish in the aquarium hobby.
  • Mandarin Green Dragonets have a symbiotic relationship with copepods and amphipods, which they feed on. In turn, they help control the population of these small crustaceans in the tank.
  • They have been known to mimic other fish, such as gobies or blennies, to blend in with their surroundings and avoid predators.
  • Mandarin Green Dragonets have been known to spawn in captivity, but raising the larvae can be difficult as they require a specific diet of copepods and phytoplankton.
